Hon. Lawrence Biyika Songa
Hon. Lawrence Biyika Songa is a Ugandan public-sector leader, environmentalist, community development advocate and international development strategist with extensive experience in parliamentary leadership, climate policy, environmental governance and stakeholder engagement. He served as the elected Member of Parliament representing Ora County in Zombo District, Uganda, bringing extensive knowledge of the region’s development priorities to the national policy arena.
Hon. Songa served as Chairperson of Uganda’s Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change, providing legislative leadership and oversight on climate policy, environmental protection, climate resilience and sustainable development. He also previously served as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change, reflecting his longstanding commitment to climate action and environmental governance.
Beyond his parliamentary career, Hon. Songa is the founder of the Songa Community Foundation, through which he has championed community empowerment, livelihood development and inclusive socioeconomic opportunities, particularly at the grassroots level. His experience working with communities and development stakeholders has given him a practical understanding of the relationship between investment, infrastructure, environmental sustainability and inclusive economic growth.
As Director, International Strategies at Transnova Group, Hon. Songa provides strategic leadership in strengthening the Group’s international relationships and expanding its engagement across African and global markets. He supports the identification and facilitation of strategic investment and development opportunities, government and institutional relationships, public-private partnerships, and engagement with investors, development partners and other international stakeholders.
His combination of parliamentary leadership, climate-policy expertise, community development experience and high-level stakeholder engagement strengthens Transnova Group’s ability to connect viable African development opportunities with international capital, strategic partners and technical expertise. He also contributes to the Group’s commitment to sustainable, climate-conscious and socially inclusive development as Transnova advances its Canada-Africa investment and project-development mandate.
